Francis Ngannou on His MMA Future: “That’s What Matters”
Francis Ngannou, the former UFC heavyweight champion, has provided an update on his future in MMA, following his astonishing venture into boxing.
After a strong performance against WBC champion Tyson Fury in his debut boxing match, Ngannou is now set to face another big name in the ring, former world champion Anthony Joshua. Although “The Predator” lost to Fury, the bout was closely contested, with many fans believing Ngannou deserved the win.
Despite the potential lucrative success awaiting Ngannou in boxing, where paychecks often surpass those in MMA, he assures fans that his MMA journey isn’t over. Last year, he signed with the MMA organization PFL, indicating his continued commitment to the sport. For now, though, his focus remains on boxing.
Ngannou expressed his passion for combat sports to DAZN, stating, “I’m a guy who fights. I don’t like getting hit, but I love hitting people. Call me anytime there’s a good person to beat in a big match… That’s what matters.”
An MMA fight that has been on Ngannou’s radar for years is against the current UFC heavyweight champion, Jon Jones. Yet, a boxing rematch with Fury tempts him more. “I’d choose the rematch against Fury because we have unfinished business. I wasn’t mad about the decision, but I still feel it was a bit unfair. When you feel something isn’t right, that’s just the feeling I have. I won that match.”
Before a return to the MMA cage, Ngannou must first face Anthony Joshua on March 8. A victory over Joshua would strengthen his case for a rematch with Tyson Fury.
