Former Rival Shares Thoughts on Anthony Joshua: “He Doesn’t Have What It Takes”
Anthony Joshua is a prominent figure in boxing, particularly in the heavyweight division, where he was a reigning champion until Oleksandr Usyk dethroned him. Recently, one of his former opponents, Zhilei Zhang, voiced his opinions about the British boxer.
Zhang’s Challenge to Joshua
During an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour, Zhang claimed that Joshua is avoiding a fight with him.
“Listen to me. He won’t face me. He will never fight me. Look at his past opponents: Francis Ngannou from the UFC, Robert Helenius. I don’t think he has what it takes to face me. The way he chooses his opponents speaks volumes about him,” Zhang stated.
History of Their Rivalry
Interestingly, Joshua and Zhang have a history dating back to their amateur days in 2012. They faced each other, with Joshua emerging victorious on points. They also clashed on the grand stage of the Olympics, where Joshua won all his matches to become the Olympic champion that year.

Zhang’s Recent Victory
Zhang’s last fight was an impressive KO victory against American Deontay Wilder, who is also known for his punching power. The bout took place on June 1, with Dmitry Bivol headlining the event. Zhang knocked Wilder down with a stiff right hook, causing the American to turn away. Zhang then landed another right hook, ending the match.
Joshua’s Upcoming Bout
Joshua is set to fight fellow Brit Daniel Dubois on September 21 at Wembley. The winner is expected to face either Usyk or Tyson Fury, depending on the outcome of their rematch. In Joshua’s last fight, he knocked out former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in the second round with a brutal right hand.
