First fight now announced for UFC Copenhagen

✅ Two veteran welterweights will clash in the Danish capital ✅ Former titel challenger takes on the ice cold Icelandic grappling sensation

The UFC’s debut in Denmark has been made all the more anticipated with an exciting welterweight match up that the was recently announced. Icelander Gunnar Nelson (17-4-1) will take on Brazilian former title challenger Thiago Alves (23-14) at UFC on ESPN+ 18, also called UFC Copenhagen, september 28th.

Fan favourites collide

Nelson has lost two out of his last three fights, which has lowered his stock somewhat.  In July last year he took on Argentinian Santiago Ponzinibbio and lost via TKO in the first round – however he received an eye poke that was controversially not reprehended. Following that loss he re-entered the win column with a bloody submission win over Alex Oliveira, but was defeated by Leon Edwards via split decision in his last outing.

Alves is also on a tough skid in the UFC as of late, as he has lost five out of his last seven bouts. After back to back losses against Curtis Millender and Alexey Kunchenko, the Brazilian rebounded with a decision victory of Max Griffin in Fortaleza, but lost to Laureano Staropoli in his most recent match.
