Fabricio Werdum: ‘Cain Velasquez Didn’t Lose Because Of Altitude, He Lost Because I’m Better Than Him’
Fabricio Werdum takes on Alexander Volkov this weekend at UFC London, but talk of a rematch with Cain Velasquez is never far away whenever the Brazilian is in the media spotlight.
Speaking today ahead of his fight with Volkov at the UFC London media day, Werdum spoke about their first fight and how fondly he looks back on the night he won the UFC heavyweight title.
“This is my strategy, I go two months before the fight, this is my strategy,” Werdum said.
“I don’t want to call Cain Velasquez before and [say] ‘come here [now] because of the altitude.’
“He lose because I am better than him. I was much better than him this time you know.
“It was a good fight and I love this fight because I got my belt, but this is not true.”
Whilst happy that he was the better man during their first contest, Werdum is open to a rematch. He will however be requesting a special clause is put in the contract so that he gets paid if Werdum ever pulls out again.
“Maybe we will fight again for sure, just I need to put something in the contract because in the last two fights he don’t fight with me.
“I lose money, I lose my camp, I lose other things.
“When they put something that says you will receive your money if he maybe don’t fight, I will fight for sure.”
