Fabian Edwards: ‘Mike Shipman Is F-cked, The Whole Division Is F-cked’
Fabian Edwards had to come through a difficult moment on Friday evening but at BAMMA 34 he took his record to 4-0 with a submission win over Kent Kauppinen.
“The Assassin” looked to be taking a methodical approach to the fight in the first round as he stalked Kauppinen around the cage. Edwards, however, was caught with a right hand as he looked to engage against the fence and he hit the mat for the time in his career. The UTC man recovered excellently though and just seconds later managed to submit Kauppinen with an armbar after he had followed him down to the ground.
Speaking to MMANytt after the fight, Edwards reflected on the fight.
“The gameplan was to go in there, pick him off and finish him on the feet, but I rushed the finish a little bit and I got caught with something silly,” Edwards said.
“I showed everyone that the punch didn’t hurt me at all, I recovered well and I finished the armbar. I adapted.
“I overthink things and I think about getting dropped, I think about getting hurt in a fight. I don’t think about going in there and dominating him,” Edwards said.
“When that happened I replayed those moments and I knew how to react to it.”
Immediately after the fight, Edwards called for a showdown with the BAMMA middleweight world champion Mike Shipman. Despite still being very early on in his career, Edwards believes he has the measure of Shipman and even went as far saying he holds no threat to him
“He’s bringing nothing and I’m not talking c***, he’s bringing nothing,” Edwards said.
“He’s got nothing I haven’t seen before. He’s slow, he’s sloppy and he get’s tired quick.
“Mike Shipman brings f*** all to me.
“I want him next, I want Mike Shipman next and I don’t know what BAMMA is playing at.
“I’m not scared of anyone in this division. It’s my division.
“I’m not scared of anything.”
With his fourth win in the bag and his next target set, Edwards didn’t mince his words sending out a message to the rest of the BAMMA 185-pounds division.
“Mike is f***ed, the division is f***ed. I keep saying it, but everyone is f***ed.”
