Till (16-0-1) burst on to the world scene when he defeated Donald Cerrone at UFC Fight Night Gdansk last year in October. The Liverpudlian announced the news last Friday that he would be headlining the UFC’s first event in his hometown of Liverpool at UFC London last weekend and his opponent was officially confirmed today.
Thompson (14-2-1) was last in action back at UFC 217 in November 2017 when he defeated Jorge Masvidal. Prior to that fight Thompson challenged for the UFC welterweight title against champion Tyron Woodley at UFC 205 and UFC 209.
Till has been campaigning heavily to get a showdown with Thompson and after some initial resistance he was granted his wish this evening.

“It’s just been announced that I’m fighting Stephen Thompson,” Till said.
“I believe he’s one of the best strikers in the UFC, not just the welterweight division.
“I believe myself to be one of the best strikers in the world, I truly believe that.
“Come May 27 we’re going to see and I want to prove myself against him.
“I know he’s really good, but I can knock him out inside of five rounds.
“The Liverpool fans deserve this, the people of Liverpool deserve it, all the fans around the world [deserve it].
“It will be a striking war, two guys just trying to kill each other, which is what I’m going to try and do and I know he’s going to try do the same.
“It’s going to be historic and it’s going to go down in history and I’m just really looked forward to it.
“Let’s f*cking have it!!”
