Weidman accomplished great things in the UFC; ascending the middleweight ranks as an undefeated prospect. He eventually challenged Anderson Silva for the title, shocking the world with a second round KO finish. He would defend his title three times, before losing it in a hard fought and bloody battle with Luke Rockhold. The former champ would lose two additional times via T/KO, before rebounding with a submission win over Kelvin Gastelum. Since then he has gone on to lose via T/KO twice more, most recently against Dominick Reyes in an ill-fated stint at light heavyweight.
Akhmedov thundered into the UFC with a devastating KO win over Thiago Perpetuo. He then went on to lose via submission to Gunnar Nelson, and continued to have mixed results that culminated in two straight losses. Since then, however, Akhmedov is undefeated, enjoying a a six fight unbeaten streak. After two straight decision wins Akjmedov went three rounds with Marvin Vettori in a bout that was ruled a draw. That bout was also Akhmedov’s middleweight debut, and he now holds three straight wins, over Tim Boetsch and Ian Heinisch amongst others.
