Eddie Alvarez Hints Future At ‘Mega Fight’ in 2018? Nate Diaz?
Eddie Alvarez was crowned the ‘Violence Champion’ at UFC 218, but the man from Philly is far from done.
Having had a week to recover from his epic battle with Justin Gaethje, Alvarez joined Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour this week to discuss his next move. Suffice to say, Alvarez is expecting a big-name opponent next time he steps into the Octagon and he’s expecting his paycheck to reflect that.
“This is my last fight, I’ve one fight left so I’m going to sit down with the boss man,” Alvarez said. “He text me on the way home from the way home from the Justin Gaethje fight and I think we’re gearing up to talk about a mega fight, so it shouldn’t be long before we sit down and I talk to Dana about and we thrash it out about doing something big.”
When asked if any opponents had been mentioned, Alvarez wouldn’t be drawn on it, but said that it would be a fight that all fans would want to see.
“We need to sit down and talk about it first,” Alvarez said. “I should be heading out to Vegas int he next couple of weeks. I don’t know if we’re going to let the holidays settle down and then do it, or maybe before?
“I’m excited about the future and I’m excited about putting some stupid ass fights on, like some crazy big fights for the fans.”
He then added:
“We will see, look, all I can say is, you know, stay tuned. Whenever I’m stepping in that Octagon I just feel nice and comfy now and everybody is going to get to see that. That same exact product that you’ve just seen.
That same violence that same finishing scene coming because I’m just finding my groove. They thought they were going to bring some young guy in and take my name and the truth is I’m just getting warmed up.
“I’m just getting warmed up in here. I’m just having a good time.”
When asked about the potential of a showdown with fellow UFC lightweight Nate Diaz, Alvarez was very coy with his answer.
“You guys can draw all the conclusions you want,” Alvarez said laughing to himself.
“Look, we’re going to sit down and all I can promise is that everyone is going to be excited. Everyone is going to be happy.”
