Dustin Poirier puts breaks on Dan Hooker bout – Wants Conor McGregor rematch
In the co-main event at UFC 243, New Zeeland’s Dan Hooker took on former lightweight title challenger Al Iaquinta. Throughout the coarse of three rounds Hooker held a lead and outworked his opponent to win a unanimous decision. It was an impressive showing for Hooker, who lined up a second straight win following a KO victory over James Vick.
After his win, instead of obliging with the traditional octagon interview, Hooker instead challenged Dustin Poirier and then left the cage.
“Dustin Poirier, I’m going to smash your face in,” Hooker said, addressing the former interim lightweight champ. “Meet me in New Zealand 2020, and I’m going to end you!”

It seems Poirier didn’t take the bait from Hooker though, because according to his response he’s still waiting on a rematch with Conor McGregor. This despite the fact that the Irish former double champ wasn’t interested in a second bout with Poirier. Hooker responded, calling McGregor a leprechaun, and appealing to Poirier’s usual willingness to scrap.
Quit chasing leprechauns, let's scrap.

As of now, Hooker is 6-1 in the UFC’s lightweight division, with his lone loss coming in a gutsy performance against Edson Barboza. Poirier most recently lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242. The fight with Nurmagomedov was a unification bout at lightweight, snapping Poirier’s six fight unbeaten streak. Meanwhile, McGregor is awaiting sentencing for the infamous bar incident. He risks a maximum of six months in jail should he be convicted at the harshest extent of Irish law.
