UFC Star’s Close Call: “Lucky to Be Alive”

Narrow Escape from a Life-threatening Condition

In a shocking revelation that has stirred the MMA community, Dominick Reyes, the former UFC title contender, narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation. Last Thursday, Reyes disclosed his diagnosis with leg blood clots, a condition that forced him to withdraw from his highly anticipated return to the octagon against Carlos Ulberg at UFC 297 on January 20th. Despite the bout’s rescheduling to March 30th, Reyes clarified that negotiations were still ongoing, and he had not signed any contract when his health took a dire turn.

Facing a tough battle ahead, Reyes is now on blood thinners, sidelining him from any strenuous activities for at least three months. The 33-year-old has been out of competition since November 2022, eagerly looking to end a losing streak of four consecutive TKO/KO losses. This setback, however, has put his plans on hold, emphasizing the unpredictability and risks associated with combat sports.

Reyes, who narrowly missed claiming victory in a controversial title fight against Jon Jones in February 2020, remains grateful for the early detection of his condition, averting further complications such as a pulmonary embolism. His story serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of health awareness in high-intensity professions.
