Actor Denzel Washington, a known supporter of boxing, shared his thoughts during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. However, Washington remained careful with his words when asked about the Paul vs. Tyson fight.

Denzel Washington Praises Tyson’s Legacy

Kimmel began the interview by complimenting Washington on his youthful appearance. The actor credited his fitness regimen, revealing he trains multiple times a week, including two sessions focused on boxing. Given this connection, Kimmel asked Washington for his opinion on the fight. Though hesitant to elaborate, Washington’s admiration for Tyson was evident.

“Mike (Tyson) is one of the greatest of all time. And I’m glad he got paid,” Washington stated with a smile.

Kimmel also displayed a photo from 2002, showing Washington shaking hands with Tyson before the legendary Tyson vs. Lennox Lewis match. Washington confirmed he doesn’t know Tyson personally, saying:

“No, not well, no.”

No Signs of Tyson Being High

Weeks before the fight, Tyson stirred controversy by joking that he might enter the ring under the influence of marijuana. Kimmel pressed Washington for his observations, asking if he noticed anything unusual during the fight. Washington, amused by the question, laughed and dismissed the idea.

“No, I didn’t, I didn’t,” he replied.

While Tyson’s legacy and performance were largely praised, Netflix faced criticism for the event’s overall execution. Fans and analysts questioned the matchmaking and production quality, calling it more spectacle than sport.
