Demian Maia Expected to Face Kamaru Usman in New Main Event for UFC Chile

Former title contender Demian Maia is expected to step into face Kamaru Usman in the main event at the first ever UFC event in Chile

Kamaru Usman finally has a new opponent for the UFC Fight Night card in Chile.

Former title challenger Demian Maia is expected to step into replace an injured Santiago Ponzinibbio, who was forced out of the contest just over a week ago.

Sources close to the contest confirmed verbal agreements are in place for the matchup following an initial report from MMAFighting. The UFC has not yet confirmed the replacement or made any official announcement regarding the new main event.

Maia will be making his first return to action following back-to-back losses in his two previous fights against welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and top ranked contender Colby Covington.

The submission specialist had won his previous seven fights in a row prior to the setbacks in 2017 to Woodley and Covington.

Maia vs. Usman will now headline the first ever UFC card in Chile with the show set to take place on May 19 from Santiago.
