“DC” on Conor McGregor and UFC 303: “Prepare for Disappointment”
According to former double champion and current UFC commentator Daniel Cormier, fans of Conor McGregor might be in for some disappointing news ahead of UFC 303.
McGregor, who was scheduled to make his long-awaited return to the Octagon against Michael Chandler, canceled the pre-fight press conference, citing uncontrollable issues. Since then, there has been silence, leaving the status of the fight in question. UFC President Dana White noted McGregor’s partying habits, but whether the issue is related to his training or something more serious remains unclear.
Cormier, speaking on the Good Guy-Bad Guy podcast with Chael Sonnen, expressed his concerns. He mentioned that sources within the UFC have been tight-lipped, suggesting that the situation might be significant.
“Start preparing for disappointment,” Cormier said. “Don’t shoot the messenger… For me, this feels like a big deal. Listen, I’ve contacted many in the organization to try and find out what’s happening, and when everyone is as silent as they are right now, it tells me there’s reason to worry.”
Speculations around McGregor’s situation include potential issues like a positive steroid test, legal troubles, contract disputes, or an injury. However, nothing has been confirmed.

McGregor, one of the richest athletes in the world and the most successful MMA fighter, might be reconsidering his comeback due to his substantial wealth, Cormier suggested. Meanwhile, Michael Chandler is eager to seize the opportunity to fight the superstar.
“We’re just guessing… Could there come a time for an athlete when he starts a camp and says, ‘I really don’t know if I want to do this,’ and eventually, the attitude spills over into fight week, and he thinks, ‘I don’t need this anymore. I really don’t want to fight. I don’t have to,’” Cormier added.
While McGregor doesn’t need to compete anymore, he has been consistent in expressing his desire to return to the Octagon soon.
