Darren Till Eyeing UFC Dublin Return: ‘I’ll Fight Gunnar Nelson In Dublin’
The anticipation for Darren Till’s to return to the UFC Octagon continues to build and if he gets his way, it looks like it could go down on May 27 at UFC Dublin.
Just last week, MMAFighting reported that the UFC were targeting a return to the 3Arena in Dublin at the end of May and SBG Ireland coach John Kavanagh almost immediately put the feelers out there for a main event between Till and Gunnar Nelson.
Kavanagh had previously suggested the bout go down at UFC London on March 17, but with Till side-lined through sickness, the fight never materialized. Speaking exclusively to MMANytt this past weekend, Till explained how it all went down from his perspective.
“I seen it and I never really took any notice of it mate,” Till said. “I just read it and that was it. I don’t spend my time using social media. I have a Twitter, but I don’t have it, it’s not on my phone. I saw a little bit of it and I just read it and disregarded it. I didn’t look into it that much.”
While he may not have been fit to take the fight then, Till now says he’s ready to return and he outlined the perfect scenario for his stepping back inside the UFC Octagon.
“I reckon in like the next 3 weeks or so I’ll be fit again and after that I’ll be ready to fight,” Till said. “If they book me a fight in the next 3 weeks then I’ll be ready to go in like 6,7 or 8 weeks. I’ll be ready. I know I’ll be ready.”
With UFC Dublin roughly fitting that time schedule, Till went on to say that the main event slot of the card in Ireland would suit him perfectly. While there are other fighters he’s more interested in taking on at this point in time, Till said he would happily fight Gunnar Nelson in Dublin and that he wouldn’t need to be asked twice by the UFC brass.
“That sounds good, yeah,” Till said. “Yeah, I’ll be able to get fit and then I’ll be able to get straight in the cage for the win. I’ll win in May, win again and then fight for the title.
“It hasn’t even started off as a perfect year, has it, cause I’ve been sick and I thought I could do the March show and I never fought. Just now I want to train and get fit.
“I hope Perry wins tonight, I can fight Perry next. If Thompson takes the fight, I’ll fight Thompson. Even in Dublin, I’ll fight Gunnar, let’s do it. I’ll fight Gunnar in Dublin.”
