Dana White: Valentina Shevchenko ‘Deserves The Next Title Shot’ at Flyweight Champ Nicco Montano
UFC flyweight champion Nicco Montano has an opponent for her first title defense.
On Wednesday, UFC president Dana White confirmed that fresh off her second round submission win over Priscila Cachoeira at UFC Fight Night in Brazil, Valentina Shevchenko will indeed get a title shot in her next fight.
“Yeah she deserves the next title shot and it’s going to be ugly for that division with somebody like Shevchenko in it,” White told “UFC Tonight” on Wednesday.
Shevchenko seemed like the automatic choice to receive the first crack at Montano after her dominating performance this past weekend.

Shevchenko, who previously battled women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes to a split decision last year, decimated Cachoeira by a tally of 230-3 in total strikes before she finished the fight by rear naked choke in the second round.
Since joining the UFC roster, Shevchenko has only suffered two losses — both to Nunes — while rattling off several impressive wins including victories against former champion Holly Holm and “Ultimate Fighter” winner Julianna Pena.
Now it looks like Shevchenko will take a vacation following her latest win and then prepare for another shot at UFC gold later this year.
Montano is still recovering from foot surgery so it’s not likely she’ll be ready to fight again until late spring or early summer but now she has an opponent with Shevchenko anxiously awaiting her return.
