Dana White Targeting Eddie Alvarez vs Dustin Poirier II For UFC Calgary
UFC President Dana White has given an update on the contract situation of Eddie Alvarez and it appears things are going in the right direction.
The former UFC lightweight champion Alvarez has been quoted multiple times over the last few weeks saying he was currently awaiting a new contract offer from the promotion and that any talk of a future fight was premature until he’d signed on the dotted line.
Speaking earlier on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, White gave the latest on Alvarez’s contract situation and said that he’d Alvarez in Philadelphia last week and that talks had gone very well.
“So I saw that thing came out from Eddie that said the UFC is playing games and this and that, so I called Eddie and I said ‘Listen Eddie, there’s no games.’ His manager literally told us he wanted to fight his contract out and check around and see how much he can get. I said ‘you guys said you wanted to fight your contract out and now I see you said that you won’t fight without a new contract.
“Those types of situations are always better when you sit down face-to-face so we got together that morning in Philly, talked some s*** about the Celtics and the 76ers and we talked. It was a great meeting and I feel like it was a really good meeting so I’ve a really good feeling we will get something done with Eddie and get this fight with him and Poirier going.”
White then confirmed that he does want to book Alvarez and Poirier for a rematch and that his preferred date would be the UFC on Fox 30 fight card set for Canada in July.
“Yeah it’s a great fight,” White confirmed. “I’m thinking, my birthday is July 28 so July 28 we’re going back to Calgary. We have a long history and a debt to pay to Calgary so I’m building the baddest birthday card ever. I’m calling it my ‘Ultimate Birthday Card.'”
