Dana White Plans to Offer Nate Diaz a Fight Immediately But Eliminates Two Opponents

Dana White plans on making Nate Diaz a fight offer by the end of the day

Nate Diaz is ready to return to the UFC and he’ll soon have a fight offer awaiting him.

On Tuesday, Diaz dropped a message on Instagram teasing his return to fighting while saying that he would see everybody in May or June. Diaz even closed the message by signing it ‘the real champ’.

Now just 24 hours later, UFC president Dana White has received that message and he plans on reaching out to Diaz to offer him a fight immediately.

“I’ll tell you what, I’ll call him today and make him an offer,” White told TMZ on Wednesday. “I’ve got to look the rankings, see where everybody is. I will make Nate Diaz an offer to fight today.”

Obviously there will be a ton of fighters who would gladly accept a matchup with Diaz including former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and former interim title contender Kevin Lee, who already put out the word that they would like the chance to land that fight.

White couldn’t divulge any ideas about who he would eventually offer Diaz, but he did eliminate two current champions on the UFC roster.

First up was Tyron Woodley, who was rumored for a fight against Diaz last December and now he would gladly put his welterweight title up for grabs to land that matchup. Unfortunately, it appears White has other plans for Woodley.

“The reality is there’s real guys like Rafael dos Anjos, guys in line waiting for that fight,” White said.  “There’s so many guys that deserve that fight before Nate does and they’re gonna get it.”

The biggest possible fight for Diaz’s return would be completing his trilogy against Conor McGregor after they split a pair of bouts in 2016. Diaz submitted McGregor in March 2016 and then the Irishman earned his revenge with a majority decision victory in the rematch five months later.

There’s little doubt a third fight would do huge business but White seems to believe McGregor has other options that would make fans even happier.

“I think people would rather see Conor come back and either fight Tony [Ferguson] or Khabib [Nurmagomedov], whoever wins,” White said. “The Nate Diaz fight isn’t going anywhere. We can do that thing any time.”

No matter who lands the fight, Diaz will definitely draw a lot of attention should he actually return later this year and it certainly seems the UFC is ready to make him an offer to get him back into the Octagon.
