Dana White Denies Potential Alex Pereira vs. Jon Jones Superfight

Dana White denies the Pereira vs. Jones fight, focusing on other priorities.

UFC President Dana White has unequivocally dismissed the possibility of a highly anticipated bout between Alex Pereira and Jon Jones. During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, White was asked about the potential for a superfight between the current light heavyweight champion Pereira and the reigning heavyweight champion Jones. His response was clear:

“No. That was easy, that was quick.”

Pereira, who has built an impressive career as a former middleweight champion and now the UFC’s light heavyweight champion, has garnered a strong following due to his aggressive fighting style and knockout power. His recent victories, including a stunning knockout of Jiri Prochazka at UFC 303, have only fueled speculation about a move to the heavyweight division, with fans and commentators alike wondering how he would fare against Jones, one of the most dominant fighters in MMA history.

Despite the buzz, White has remained firm in his stance. He has indicated that Pereira should focus on clearing out the light heavyweight division rather than moving up to challenge Jones. White’s reluctance to entertain this fight is partly due to Jones’ upcoming title defense against Stipe Miocic, which is set to take place later this year. Additionally, Jones has hinted at possible retirement following the Miocic fight, making the prospects of a future bout with Pereira even more unlikely.

However, not everyone shares White’s perspective. UFC commentator Joe Rogan and Pereira’s coach, Plinio Cruz, have both expressed strong support for the matchup. Cruz even went so far as to call it “the biggest fight the sport has ever seen,” underscoring the potential historical significance if Pereira were to become the first fighter to hold titles in three different weight classes.

As it stands, Dana White’s decision has quashed the immediate possibility of this dream fight, much to the disappointment of fans and those within the UFC community who were eager to see these two champions clash.

Jon Jones Praised Despite Uncertainty Over Future Fights

Jon Jones, currently regarded by many as the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in MMA, continues to receive praise from Dana White. Jones has been recovering from an injury throughout 2024, but White remains vocal about his belief that Jones is the best fighter in the world. Addressing criticism from fans, White remarked,

“Anybody who thinks Jon Jones isn’t the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world should never be discussing fighting ever, period, end of story.”

Jones is expected to face Miocic in what could be his final fight, though the UFC president has hinted that the future remains uncertain. Whether Jones will retire or continue to defend his heavyweight title remains a topic of discussion, but what is clear is that the possibility of a showdown with Pereira is not on the immediate horizon.
