UFC boss Dana White ANGERED by “disrespect” shown to “Cowboy” Cerrone

"The level of disrespect shown to Cowboy..."

On January 18th we will finally see the year’s first UFC event. The promotion returns with UFC 246, featuring superstar Conor McGregor’s comeback. While much of the focus has been on McGregor, UFC president Dana White feels it’s been all too disproportionate.

In a recent interview with Brett Okamoto, it was clear that White didn’t appreciate how McGregor’s opponent Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone seems to be counted out by so many. Even top lightweight contender Dustin Poirier feels that Cerrone is on the back end of his career.

”We’re getting through this one first, we’re getting through the Cowboy fight,” White told ESPN in reference to McGregor’s next opponent after “Cowboy”. “And the level of disrespect shown to Cowboy through this whole thing? Apparently people forgot that Cowboy’s lost two in a row before and come back and gone on unbelievable runs. Let’s not count Cowboy out.”

White would undoubtedly be correct in this matter. Cerrone is currently on a two fight losing streak, but it’s not the first time he’s recovered from adversity. Between 2017 and 2018 he lost four out of his five bouts, and three straight. After a close decision loss to top contender Leon Edwards, “Cowboy” managed to turn it around and won his three following bouts, two via finish, earning four performance bonuses.

As of now, Cerrone’s two straight losses are to elite lightweight contenders Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje. Ferguson will be next to challenge lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Gaethje sits at #3 in the UFC rankings. While there is no doubt that “Cowboy” can get back to his winning ways eventually, it still remains to be seen if he can get past McGregor.

Who wins at UFC 246: Conor McGregor or “Cowboy” Cerrone?
