Damien Brown vs Dong Hyun Kim Set For UFC 221
Hold on to your hats, UFC 221 has had a new lightweight bout added to it with Australian Damien Brown taking on “Maestro” Dong Hyun Kim.
The news was announced by Fox Sports in Australia.
Brown (17-11) is coming off the back of a ‘Fight of the Night’ performance against Frank Camacho at UFC Fight Night 121, but is currently on a two fight losing streak. A split decision loss to Camacho and a TKO loss to Vinc Pichel has put the Brown on the brink of being cut from the UFC roster, but on Feb. 10 he will get one last chance to prove his worth. Prior to his recent losing streak, Brown picked up wins against Cesar Arzamendia and Jon Tuck after losing on his UFC debut to Alan Patrick.
If Brown is to get back on track, he will have to defeat a man who’s currently on an excellent run of form. Kim (15-8-3) is riding a two fight win streak with wins over Brown’s fellow countryman Brandon O’Reilly and most recently Takanori Gomi. Kim will know exactly what it feels like for Brown when the two go head-to-head having lost two fights himself after making his UFC debut in Nov. 2015.
With this addition, the UFC 221 fight card now looks like this:
Robert Whittaker vs. Luke Rockhold 185 lbs
Ben Nguyen vs. Jussier Formiga 125 lbs
Tyson Pedro vs. Saparbek Safarov 205 lbs
Tai Tuivasa vs. Cyril Asker 265 lbs
Damien Brown vs. Dong Hyun Kim 155 lbs
