Cris Cyborg vs. Holly Holm Official for UFC 219 in Las Vegas
The long talked about title fight between UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino and Holly Holm has finally been inked for UFC 219 in Las Vegas on Dec. 30.
UFC officials announced the matchup on Thursday evening.
The bout between Cyborg and Holm has been rumored for months but negotiations for the fight broke down several weeks ago and the UFC was left scrambling for a title fight for the final event in 2017.
Talks resumed this week and a deal was finally struck with Cyborg and Holm both agreeing to the matchup in December.
For Cyborg, this will serve as he first title defense after winning the UFC women’s featherweight belt back in July with a TKO against Tonya Evinger.
Meanwhile, Holm will get her second crack at the featherweight belt after coming up short in the inaugural matchup to crown a champion when she fell to Germaine de Randamie earlier this year.
De Randamie was eventually stripped of the title, which Cyborg then won in July.
Since her loss to de Randamie, Holm returned to form with a vicious head kick knockout against former title contender Bethe Correia earlier this year.
As of now, the UFC hasn’t officially named Cyborg vs. Holm as the main event for the card, but at least now the title fight is a done deal for the event taking place Dec. 30.
