“Cowboy” Cerrone gets lengthy suspension following loss to McGregor
The dust has settled from UFC 246, an event that saw the triumphant return of Irish superstar Conor McGregor. The event would be less than stellar for opponent Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, who lost via 40 second TKO – his third straight T/KO loss. Now he has been handed a long medical suspension by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC), obtained by MMA Junkie. “Cowboy” is facing a 180 day suspension for a nasal and orbital fractures sustained in the fight with McGregor, who in turn did not absorb a single strike. Cerrone can, however, be cleared earlier by a physician if he shows, following a speedy recovery.

“Cowboy” was not the only one handed a lengthy suspension, however. Sodiq Yusuff, Maycee Barber, Anthony Pettis, Diego Ferreira and Maurice Greene all earned 180 preemptive suspensions, and can, like Cerrone, be cleared earlier by a physician. Barber was the one out of the above that received the most apparent injury. She showed clear problems with her left knee during and after the fight with Roxanne Modafferi, in which the latter scored the biggest upset on the card. Barber cried out in visible pain during the fight, and required assistance leaving the cage.
The medical suspension that “Cowboy” received, as well as all other fighters, can be found below.
