Conor McGregor’s recipe for beating Islam Makhachev: “Be a bowling ball”
Former double champion Conor McGregor has some advice for pound-for-pound king Alexander Volkanovski.
After a brilliant performance against Charles Oliveira at UFC 280, Islam Makhachev was crowned UFC’s new lightweight champion. In his post-fight speech, Makhachev challenged Volkanovski to a fight on his home turf of Australia. They’re expected to collide in Perth at UFC 284 next year.
UFC superstar McGregor believes he knows the recipe for a Volkanovski win.
“And we dance on,” McGregor told Volkanovski on Twitter. “Good. I was in your exact spot one time don’t forget. 145 coming up. Good luck. I’d say go heavier. Rugby days. Be a bowling ball. That’s how I’d do it as you. Your condition right now as I see it, I don’t know. But bowling ball style for you for best chance.”

McGregor last competed at UFC 264 last year, where he suffered an emotional defeat against bitter rival Dustin Poirier. “The Notorious” broke his leg at the end of the first round, and has been busy recovering from the injury ever since. Currently, he’s involved in the filming of Amazon Studios’s remake of “Road House.” However, despite a budding Hollywood career, McGregor is eager to return to the octagon, where he hopes to have multiple fights before his movie even premieres.
“I’m feeling crazy confident. Calm. Disattached from emotion. Aware of what I must do and making it happen. Visualizing. I see it all. Clear. This movie wraps, I’m back. I’ll have multiple fights completed by the time this movie even releases.”

Volkanovski last competed at UFC 276 where he put on a dominant performance against Max Holloway in their trilogy bout. For his next fight, “The Great” Alexander Volkanovski will move up to lightweight to take on Makhachev and put his title as pound-for-pound best on the line.
