Conor McGregor Pushes for UFC Return After Clean Drug Test

“McGregor insists he’s ready for a UFC comeback after latest clean drug test.”

Conor McGregor has demanded a new date for his long-awaited UFC comeback after sharing yet another clean drug test result. The Irish superstar has been absent from competition for nearly three years but was initially slated to return during UFC 303 in June. However, a broken toe derailed that plan, and his intended opponent, Michael Chandler, has since been booked to fight at UFC 309 in New York.

McGregor remains eager to face Chandler, who is now set to fight former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira in a co-main event at Madison Square Garden. Despite this, McGregor has admitted that his next fight will likely happen next year.

McGregor Calls for UFC Return Following Clean Drug Test

Since suffering a broken leg during his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier in 2021, Conor McGregor has faced ongoing struggles to make his way back to the octagon. Persistent injuries, including a broken toe on his other foot, have caused him to miss multiple potential dates for his highly anticipated return.

For a time, McGregor was removed from the UFC’s previous anti-doping program under USADA. However, he has since re-entered the new Drug Free Sport International (DFSI) testing pool. Now one of the most frequently tested athletes in the program, McGregor recently shared a new negative test result on social media, though he later deleted the post.

In the post, McGregor displayed a screenshot of an email from DFSI showing his clean test result and added the caption:

“Mest testade atleten på UFC:s lista x2. Jag förtjänar mitt matchdatum! #CleanAthlete.”

The email, titled “UFC sample result,” read:

“Dear Conor McGregor. We are pleased to inform you that sample number E004244, collected from you on September 13, 2024, has returned a NEGATIVE result from the laboratory. Thank you for your contribution to supporting a clean UFC.”

McGregor Eyes 2025 UFC Return

The Notorious was among the 98,000 spectators at Wembley Stadium to witness the heavyweight boxing clash between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois over the weekend. From his prime seat, McGregor not only entertained fans with his reactions but also spoke candidly about his UFC future.

During the event, McGregor bumped into MMA journalist Ariel Helwani and discussed when he expects his next fight to take place:

“It will be in 2025. We’ll see. My scheduled opponent has been matched with someone else, it is what it is. I’ll take it in stride and keep moving forward. My job is to go to the gym and stay fit. Whenever and wherever it happens, I’ll be 100 percent ready.”

McGregor’s candid remarks reflect his determination to remain in peak condition despite the delay in his return. The UFC fanbase eagerly awaits further news of his eventual comeback and who his next opponent will be, whether it’s Chandler or someone else.
