Conor McGregor, Khabib Nurmagomedov Continue Back and Forth War of Words

The lightweight champion and the undefeated Russian were going back and forth throughout New Year's Day

A war of words between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov continued on Monday with both throwing barbs at each other.

The back and forth started with McGregor calling Nurmagomedov’s performance against Edson Barboza at UFC 219 “dog s–” despite earning a lopsided unanimous decision on the scorecards.

Nurmagomedov immediately fired back but that wasn’t the end of the exchange as the day moved forward.

The 25-0 Dagestan native posted a photo of him riding on the back of a bear chasing McGregor, who is holding onto his lightweight championship.

That prompted a response from McGregor, who fired back in epic form.

“I slaughter your pets and wear them as coats. And I only wear them once,” McGregor wrote.

Nurmagomedov fired back one more time as he continued to jab at McGregor on social media.

“You can buy them on Gucci store but in the Octagon, bear will eat you,” Nurmagomedov wrote.

The exchange certainly got a lot of people talking about a potential matchup between McGregor and Nurmagomedov at some point in 2018.

Right now, McGregor is still deep in negotiations with the UFC on a new deal to bring him back to the Octagon with hopes that he could fight again sometime during the summer.

As for Nurmagomedov, he’s been interested in a showdown with UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson as well and it’s entirely possible that matchup takes place while waiting for McGregor to return.
