Conor McGregor holds passionate speech to the nation
In a pleasant surprise, UFC superstar made a presidential-level, heartfelt speech to the nation of Ireland in wake of the world’s ongoing troubles.
We are enduring harsh times worldwide. While many are not taking the Covid-19 pandemic seriously, that does not change the fact that the death toll is rising. Many MMA fighters are adhering to social distancing and self isolation, most of them trying to make the best of the situation. One who has decided to to use his platform to spread awareness and encourage social distancing is Conor McGregor, who made a passionate speech to the nation of Ireland and by extension, the world.
“Hello everyone. Hello Ireland.
“I would like to address my nation. To the people of Ireland, to our President Michael D Higgins, to Vice Admiral Mark Mellett, to Garda Commissioner Drew Harris, Chief Medical Officer Tony Holohan, Leo [Varadkar], the two Simons [Coveney and Harris], Mary [Lou McDonald] and Micheál [Martin], I respect you all greatly and I would like to put forth some of my thinking.
“I would like to say that while we are all currently debating a full lockdown, I feel that we must. Any time spent debating this is needless time from the clock.
“I know a good, tough fight when I see one and we have one on our hands now.

McGregor then addressed te importance of social distancing, which he feels people are not adhering to. He then went on to plead for a united lockdown world wide in order to defeat the pandemic.
“We are not adhering to social distancing. At least not to the extent required to halt exponential growth. A lockdown will facilitate this . It will reduce transmission, it will take the pressure off our frontline staff and it will allow us to identify all of our cases.
“These methods are stringent but necessary and it worked in China and Hong Kong.
“Ireland we have got this. Not only do we have the formula, we have it ahead of time.
“Let’s go Ireland. Let’s go rest of the world. Lockdown united. Together we stand. God bless us all.”
Odds makers quickly began setting up bets regarding the odds of McGregor making a run in politics following the passionate speech.
According to Mcgregor’s team, there were plans for returning July 11th, supposedly against Justin Gaethje. However this has undoubtedly been affected by the Coronavirus. While these reports are unconfirmed by the UFC, fans would undoubtedly rejoice in seeing the return of the biggest name in MMA. It would also be profitable for all parties involved, to say the least, much needed after the tough financial times that have followed the current outbreak.
