Colby Covington Calls Out ‘Filthy Animal’ Rafael dos Anjos for Interim Title Fight
Colby Covington wants to fight for a UFC title even if he’s not facing welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.
The often outspoken No. 3 ranked contender at 170-pounds wasted no time chiming in after watching Rafael dos Anjos dismantle Robbie Lawler over five rounds on Saturday night in Winnipeg.
Covington threw out a challenge to dos Anjos to crown an interim champion while also lobbing a couple of insults at the Brazilian fighter in the same message.
Sad performance by the JV Squad on FOX for #UFCWinnipeg . RDA couldn't even finish a broken old man! Tyrones faking injuries. I'm here to make this division great again. @RdosAnjosMMA step up and defend that #dump you call home & fight me for the interim title you #FilthyAnimal

The request comes as Woodley prepares to undergo shoulder surgery that will likely keep him out of action for several months.
Obviously, Woodley will have a lot to say if the UFC actually entertained crowning an interim champion considering he’s defended his title three times in the past 13 months.
Covington has also been rumored for a possible coaching role opposite Woodley on the next season of “The Ultimate Fighter” but that’s far from a done deal at this point in time.
Either way, Covington has his sights set on becoming champion no matter who he has to go through to get there.
