CM Punk Receives His Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Blue Belt

No fight news yet for UFC welterweight CM Punk, but he's received his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blue belt.

Whether CM Punk will ever fight in the UFC ever again still remains to be seen, but it would appear that the former WWE has been upgraded to a BJJ blue belt by his instructor, Daniel Wanderley.

Punk was awarded his new belt on the famous yellow mats of Roufusport MMA in Milwaukee.

The news was announced by Wanderley on his Instagram where he posted a photo with Punk with his new belt and the caption:

“Congratulations on your blue belt promotion Phil. I’m honoured to be part of your Jiu Jitsu and MMA journey”

Punk has fought only once for the UFC since signing for them back at UFC 181 in Oct. 2014. Punk took on Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in Sept. 2016 and was defeated in the first round via submission after just two minutes and 14-seconds. Despite the embarrassing defeat, Punk hasn’t lost sight of taking another fight under the UFC banner and there was talk only this past weekend that he would meet with UFC President Dana White at UFC 218 to discuss his next steps.

White stated to a reporter during the post-fight press conference that the two hadn’t been able to talk, but Punk was in attendance as he cornered Paul Felder on his way to victory over Alex Oliveira, and watched his training partner Sergio Pettis be defeated by Henry Cejudo.

Whether Punk will fight again or not remains to be seen, but one thing we know for sure is that he’s still in the gym working hard at becoming a better martial artist.
