Brian Stann announces his departure from UFC commentary duties
The UFC has lost one of its voices.
Former middleweight contender turned analyst and color commentator Brian Stann has announced his departure from the promotion to pursue a new career in real estate.
Stann made the announcement via his Instagram account on Monday.
“I am announcing my departure from calling fights with the UFC,” Stann wrote. “I have been offered an amazing leadership role with a fast growing Real Estate Firm and will be attending Northwestern (Kellogg) for my executive MBA this fall. Thank you to everyone for years of support, especially the athletes and coaches whom I love deeply. I will continue to be a huge MMA supporter and attend many events. Thank you to everyone from FOX and Zuffa who helped me so much in this journey. Jon Anik, you are my brother and that will never change, and I cannot tell you how important your friendship has been to me. My wife Teressa Stann, who has endured so much and supported me through war, fighting, and now this transition, I love forever and thank you so much.
“This move is to focus more on my family. I traveled 26 weekends last year for work while also working a full time job. My new role as a COO will be very difficult but still afford me my weekends with my wife and 3 children. Transition and change are a part of life and I am really excited to prove my worth to my new company and hopefully showcase the diverse skills military veterans and mixed martial artists possess.”
Stann has been a stalwart on UFC broadcasts for several years acting as color commentator opposite Jon Anik for numerous shows across the world while primarily working events airing live on FOX or FS1.
Stann also picked up international commentary duties in recent years after Joe Rogan decided he no longer wanted to travel out of the country as often to call fights for the UFC.
In addition to his commentary duties, Stann worked as an analyst in studio for FS1 during many pre and post fight shows on the network.
His loss to the broadcast team will be a huge blow to the UFC considering the expertise he brought to each and every event he covered.
The UFC has tested out three-man booths over the past year with former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and former light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier both filling in commentary duties from time to time.
With Stann’s exit, the UFC will now have to find a more constant voice to fill his role with a busy few months upcoming with numerous shows across the globe.
