Brandon Vera Set To Defend His Title Later This Year In A Champion vs Champion Clash
ONE Championship having been making big headlines lately and they’re about to drop some big news in regards to their heavyweight division.
Following an initial report from MMA-Today, sources close to MMANytt.com have confirmed that ONE Championship heavyweight champion Brandon Vera will defend his title in a champion vs champion clash against Cage Warriors heavyweight champion, Mauro Cerilli.
Vera (15-7 1NC) last fought back in Dec. 2016 when he defeated Hideki Sekine via TKO in the first round of their main event at ONE: Age of Domination. The Filipino heavyweight has gone 3-0 since leaving the UFC in 2013 with wins over Igor Subora, Paul Cheng and Sekine. Vera will now make his return to the ONE Championship for the first time in nearly two years when he faces the 35-year-old Italian.
Cerilli (12-2) is currently riding a five-fight win streak and is the reigning and defending Cage Warriors heavyweight champion. “The Hammer” won the title back at Cage Warriors 89 in Nov. 2017 when he defeated Nills Van Noord via first round TKO. Cerilli has since defended the belt once when he defeated Cage Warriors light heavyweight champion Karl Moore in just 15-seconds at Cage Warriors 92: Super Saturday in March earlier this year.
ONE Championship are yet to officially announce the bout, but a likely fight card would be ONE’s return to Manila on Nov. 23 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
