ONE Boss Chatri Sityodtong: ‘I Would’ve Fired Conor McGregor On The Spot’
Conor McGregor has received criticism all-round for his antics at Bellator 187 two weeks ago, and ONE Championship Chairman Chatri Sityodtong says he would’ve taken drastic action had he been a member of the ONE Championship roster.
McGregor invaded the Bellator MMA cage two weeks ago to celebrate with his friend Charlie Ward who he believed had just beaten John Redmond at the 3 Arena. Unfortunately, the UFC lightweight champion’s celebrations were a little premature for referee Marc Goddard’s liking, and all hell broke loose when Goddard informed McGregor that he’d not yet called the fight.

An unsavoury series of events followed and like anything to do with McGregor, it got millions of views online and on the Bellator TV broadcast with Spike using the cage invasion as a promotional tool to advertise the taping.
Yesterday at the ONE: Immortal Pursuit press conference, ONE Chairman Sityodtong took several jabs at the UFC for some of their fighters recent behaviour and speaking exclusively MMANytt.com after, Sityodtong weighed in on what he would’ve done to McGregor if he was a member of the ONE roster.

“I would’ve fired him on the spot,” Sityodtong said. “That’s the difference between us. I’m not about just making money. I’m about celebrating values. I’m about celebrating authentic martial arts, Asia’s greatest cultural treasure.
“If a ONE Championship athlete did that I would’ve fired him on the spot. If Conor McGregor was a ONE Championship athlete I would’ve fired him on the spot. I don’t care how much money you bring the company.”
Of course, it’s probably worth pointing out that fighters on the UFC roster aren’t employees of the company.
McGregor has already issued a public apology regarding his behaviour.
ONE Championships next event, Immortal Pursuit, takes place tomorrow in Singapore and will be headlined by Ben Askren taking on Shinya Aoki. Viewers in North America can watch the event live on FloCombat.
