Aspinall Challenges White and Jones: “Let’s Settle This in the Octagon”

Aspinall demands a title shot, calling out Jones’ silence and Dana White’s favoritism.

Aspinall Calls Out Jon Jones and Dana White

Tom Aspinall, the UFC interim heavyweight champion, has not minced words regarding his feelings about Jon Jones and UFC President Dana White. Recently, Dana White has repeatedly praised Jon Jones as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, a sentiment Aspinall strongly disagrees with. Aspinall is confident that he could prove White wrong and has called for a showdown with Jones to settle the matter once and for all.

In a fiery appearance on the “Believe You Me” podcast, Aspinall did not hold back:

“I am the best heavyweight in the world. I don’t get the recognition I deserve. They’re holding the title hostage, and Jon Jones loves it. He enjoys Dana talking about him in every possible interview. If he’s so good, let’s fight. I am the best heavyweight right now. Let’s put everything on the line and see who’s better – me or Jon. It’s that simple.”

Controversy in the Heavyweight Division

The UFC heavyweight division has been fraught with controversy over the past year. After Francis Ngannou left the UFC in March 2023, Jon Jones won the vacant heavyweight title but has yet to defend it. Initially scheduled to face Stipe Miocic in November 2023, Jones had to withdraw due to injury, leaving the division in a state of limbo. Meanwhile, Aspinall captured the interim title by defeating Sergei Pavlovich and successfully defended it against Curtis Blaydes in July.

Despite Aspinall’s accomplishments, Jones is expected to defend his title against Miocic, who has not fought since 2021. This decision has left many, including Aspinall, frustrated.

Aspinall Doubles Down

Aspinall’s critique of Jones extends beyond their potential fight. He has openly questioned Jones’ intentions and White’s unrelenting support for him:

“Jon Jones, he was praying that I’d lose that fight against Curtis Blaydes. He’s never publicly said he’d fight me. I challenge anyone to find a statement, a quote, or a video where Jon Jones says he’ll fight me after Stipe. It doesn’t exist. The guy’s smart. We know he’s a bit overweight these days. He’s sitting there with Cheetos fingers or whatever, Doritos fingers, with his iPhone in hand, waiting for me to get knocked out so he can start tweeting about it. Let’s be honest: since I won that fight, he’s been completely silent and remains silent about me because there’s no chance in the world he’ll fight me. I’ll retire Jon Jones without even fighting him.”

Aspinall’s frustration is palpable, and he seems determined to push for a fight against Jones, believing that it’s the only way to get the recognition he deserves.

Dana White’s Defense of Jones

Dana White’s unwavering support of Jon Jones has been met with mixed reactions. Despite Jones’ inactivity and Aspinall’s rise, White has continued to defend Jones as the pound-for-pound best, dismissing Aspinall’s credentials. White’s stance has baffled fans and fighters alike, with many questioning why Miocic, at 41 and inactive since 2021, is being prioritized over a young, active fighter like Aspinall.
