Anderson Silva challenges Conor McGregor to super fight
Despite it not making much sense in a rankings point of view, former middleweight champion Anderson Silva wants to fight Conor McGregor.
It would be an unexpected booking to be sure, that doesn’t have much precedence. However Silva took to social media to openly challenge McGregor to a 176 lbs catchweight bout.
“SUPER FIGHT 176.37LBS. I have an immense admiration for the great athlete Conor and I believe that a super fight would be something historic for the sport, neither of us need to prove anything to anyone; I believe UFC and sport fans would like to see this great martial (arts) show, testing my martial skills with him would be fantastic!!,” Silva wrote.

As of now McGregor has not responded, though neither fighter currently has a fight booked.
The only real precedence for this potential bout is McGregor bringing Silva up when the former announced his own GOAT rankings. While at first electing to put Silva at the number one spot, McGregor later announced himself as the greatest of all time.
Silva has not fought since May of last year, when he was TKO’d by Jared Cannonier in the first round. Currently the ex middleweight champ has only won one out of his last seven fights; a controversial decision win over Derek Brunson.
McGregor has been linked to several fights since making his return to the UFC earlier this year. After finishing Donald Cerrone in the first round, fighters such as Nate Diaz, Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman have all expressed interest to fight McGregor.
