Aljamain Sterling Accuses Opponent of Doping Ahead of UFC 307

Sterling’s accusations stir controversy as UFC 307 fight approaches.

Sterling’s Allegations Against Movsar Evloev

Aljamain Sterling has accused his upcoming opponent, undefeated Russian fighter Movsar Evloev, of using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). The two are set to face off in the octagon at UFC 307 on October 5 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Sterling, a former bantamweight champion, has publicly claimed that Evloev is using banned substances, accusations that Evloev strongly denies. In response, Evloev posted a photo of what appeared to be recent drug tests conducted by UFC’s anti-doping partner, Drug Free Sport International, suggesting he is clean.

Comparisons to T.J. Dillashaw’s Past Controversy

Despite Evloev’s denials, Sterling remains steadfast in his accusations, drawing parallels to the rumors surrounding former bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw before his doping scandal. Dillashaw was accused for years by his former training partner Cody Garbrandt of teaching doping methods at Team Alpha Male, claims that were largely dismissed until Dillashaw tested positive in 2019. Sterling stated he feels similarly convinced about Evloev’s alleged PED use, regardless of any positive test results.

“In my opinion, he’s not a clean athlete… People can say what they want, but you have no proof. I think, ‘The same was said about T.J. Dillashaw years ago, and Cody Garbrandt called him out directly at a press conference for teaching everyone at the gym how to cheat.’ Those conversations are not so different from what I’ve heard about Movsar, and I believe that where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Do I have concrete evidence, like seeing him stick a needle in himself? No. Has he tested positive for anything yet? No. Maybe he never will. But in the end, it’s just him and his conscience that know if he’s truly clean. I genuinely believe he knows he’s cheated,” Sterling stated.

Continuing the Fight Despite Allegations

Despite the serious nature of the accusations, Sterling has no intention of withdrawing from his bout with Evloev at UFC 307. Sterling claims to have faced several opponents in the past who were on banned substances, whether or not they were caught. He insists on confronting his opponents directly about their alleged cheating.

“It is what it is. I’m going to fight him. I’ve fought multiple guys who have done stuff, whether they got caught or not. And that’s just how it is. I’m a fighter. I just want to let them know, ‘I know what you’re doing.’ And it’s not about making excuses. I just call a spade a spade. If people want to call it an excuse, fine, but I’m still going to fight the guy, whether I talked about it before or not. People get caught. I call them out, and I’ve done that for a long time. That’s why I don’t take anything unless it’s third-party certified.”
