UFC Washington: Alistair Overeem gets his face destroyed

The main event fight between Alistair Overeem and Jairzinho Rozenstruik was just seconds from ending when replacement fighter Rozenstruik landed a vicious punch that destroyed Overeem’s face.

Even though Overeem was not completely out, Rozenstruik chose not to continue punishing “The Demolition Man” and looking at Overeem’s face afterwards, it was the right thing to do!

Check out the vicious sequence that split Oveerem open. It is very reminiscent of Robbie Lawler’s fight with Rory MacDonald back in 2015:

The fight card featured a set of rare outcomes. While draws are unusual in MMA, Cynthia Calvillo vs. Marina Rodriguez and Cody Stamann vs. Song Yadong, were both main card bouts that also ended in a majority draw. On the preliminary card fan favourite Bryce Mitchell managed to secure the second Twister submission ever in UFC history, tapping out Matt Sayles.
