Alexander Gustafsson Recovering After Shoulder Surgery

Alexander Gustafsson hopes to get back into training in the near future following surgery

Former title contender Alexander Gustafssson is on the mend after revealing that he just underwent surgery on his shoulder.

In a post from Instagram, Gustafsson talked about the surgery and his hopes to return to training in the near future now that his shoulder has been repaired.

“[Operation] done. Got my shoulder fixed, feel great, been three months with a plate keeping my collarbone in place!” Gustafsson wrote. “Now rehab and slowly getting back in 100% training!

“Can’t wait to get back to the octagon.”

Gustafsson has been out of action since May when he defeated Glover Teixeira in one of his most impressive outings to date while also picking up his second win in a row overall.

While it appeared that Gustafsson was potentially in line for a rematch with light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier next year, surging contender Volkan Oezdemir now looks like the most likely candidate to get the next title shot despite a recent arrest on assault charge.

Obviously, Gustafsson is now recovering from shoulder surgery and still not quite ready to get back into training just yet so it doesn’t look like he would have been available to face Cormier in early 2018 even if he was offered the fight.

As of now, there’s no word on how much longer Gustafsson will be sidelined before he can book his return fight in the UFC.
