Alexander Gustafsson Reacts To Daniel Cormier vs Stipe Miocic News… And He Isn’t Pleased
Swedish light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson has reacted to the news that Daniel Cormier will fight Stipe Miocic for the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 226 and you would expect, he isn’t best pleases.
Speaking out via his Instagram account earlier today, Gustafsson took aim at Cormier and the UFC for even thinking about making the fight happen.
“@dc_mma is fighting stipe?!
Well stop run and fight me!
Don’t even think about giving the fight to anyone else!
I have been quite, had a tough time after my last fight (injury etc.) but I’m next in line and the dc fight is mine!
Come on, let’s have a another dance for the fans! @ufc”
Cormier moving up to heavyweight to fight Miocic now leaves the likes of Gustafsson, Jimi Manuwa, Glover Teixeira and Volkan Oezdemir out in the dark. With limited matchups left to make between those fighters, Cormier’s absence from defending his title presents a brief period of inertia for the title picture at 205-pounds.
Who’s to say Cormier doesn’t deserve the opportunity though? With a 13-0 undefeated record in the weight class, Cormier has a CV well worthy of tacking a champion who isn’t being hunted down by any immediate contenders.
Gustafsson though will be scratching around for opponents at light heavyweight and could well have to sit out to see if Cormier returns to the weight class following UFC 226.
Good luck to the person telling Gustafsson the news that Cormier vs Miocic is now official.
