Alexander Gustafsson Fires Back at Daniel Cormier In Latest War of Words

Alexander Gustafsson and Daniel Cormier continued their back and forth war of words on Friday.

Alexander Gustafsson might have to wait several months before he gets his hands on Daniel Cormier but that’s not stopping him from going to battle with the UFC light heavyweight champion in a recent war of words.

It all started when Gustafsson expressed his frustration that Cormier was holding up the division by moving to heavyweight for his upcoming fight against Stipe Miocic at UFC 226. In response, Gustafsson called for a fight against Cormier’s teammate Luke Rockhold to keep him busy while waiting for a title shot.

Cormier then launched an offensive of his own against Gustafsson while reminding him that the last time they faced each other the two-time title contender from Sweden was coming off a knockout loss to Anthony “Rumble” Johnson yet still received a shot at the gold.

Well Gustafsson came back at Cormier on Friday with a similar jab after what unfolded last July that once again crowned him light heavyweight champion.

“Yeah Luke might lose his way into a title, it can happen, like you lost your way back to your belt?” Gustafsson said. “Christmas came early for you last year!”

Gustafsson’s jab is a reminder that Cormier suffered a knockout loss to Jon Jones last July at UFC 214 that cost him the light heavyweight title. Jones later tested positive for a banned substance and the result was overturned to a no contest, which then returned the title to Cormier.

Judging by these latest exchanges, Gustafsson and Cormier aren’t letting this grudge go any time soon.
