Manager: Jorge Masvidal Would Have No Problem Fighting Darren Till In August
Jorge Masvidal has yet to fight in 2018, but according to his manager Abraham Kawa, his client is eyeing a number of high profile fights for his return later this summer.
“Gamebred” was linked with a fight with Darren Till earlier this year, but with American recovering from injuries, he was unable to commit to taking the fight at 170-pounds. Speaking on The MMA Hour last evening, Kawa explained the situation from his perspective and said that Masvidal was unwilling to take the fight knowing that he wouldn’t be able to make the weight.
“I’ll tell you what, Jorge is a beast,” Kawa said. “That guy does not care who he fights or when he fights. That guy will say yes to anybody.”
“I’m glad you brought up Darren Till because what ended up happening with that date, Darren Till vs Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, was the one thing that Jorge did not want to happen to himself.
“He will never say this publically, but he will never show up to a fight and miss weight. He finds that to be the most unprofessional thing and that’s not a knock on Darren Till. That’s why that date wasn’t working for him. He was not going to show up and miss weight.
“That’s why he said to Neil Magny let’s take a fight at 180-pounds or whatever pounds at the time. He understands that if you sign up to a fight at 170-pounds you got to be 170 and if you sign up for a fight at 185-pounds you got to be 185.He understands that and he is very professional about that.”
With Masvidal’s return pencilled in for later this summer, Kawa went on to explain that there are a whole host of names he would be willing to fight.
Rumour has it the UFC are eyeing up a showdown with Till later in the year, but for Masvidal the list doesn’t just stop at the Scouser.
“If Darren Till is available sometime around August, I think you will have no problem booking that fight whatsoever,” Masvidal said.
“If the UFC wants it, if the fans want it, that’s a fight that Jorge will be willing to take. I also know that if RDA loses, that’s a fight Jorge will be willing to take tomorrow.
“If Demian Maia wants to give him a rematch, that’s one he will take tomorrow. If Kamaru Usman’s hands are ok, I think he said they aren’t broken on your show, I’m glad they aren’t broken, if that’s the case he’d will be willing to take that tomorrow.”
