Stipe Miocic
Stipe Miocic was born on the 19th of August 1982. He is an american mixed martial artist and the reigning defending UFC Heavyweight Champion.
He was born in Euclid, Ohio to Croatian parents and was a triple athlete in high school. He attended Eastlake North High School and played baseball, football and wrestled.
When Miocic was attending college alot of MLB teams were interested in him. He was also an amateur champion in boxing in Cleveland. He currently works as a fireman and EVO (emergency vehicle operator) in Oakwood.
Stipe Miocic’s career before the UFC
Stipe Miocic made his amateur MMA debut in 2006. He had a total of five amateur bouts and he won all of them by first round TKO. He made his professional debut in 2010 and won via TKO after 17 seconds.
He became the NAAFS heavyweigh champion when he submitted Bobby Brents by leg kicks in the second round.
He continued his winning streak until the UFC signed him and he made his debut 2011.
Stipe Miocic’s UFC career
Stipe Miocic made his UFC debut against tough veteran Joey Beltran. He won the fight by unanimous decision. His first knockout in the UFC came in his next fight against Phil De Fries. The knockout of De Fries gave Miocic his first “Knockout of the Night” bonus.
Micoic then faced Shane del Rosario and won by TKO in the second round at UFC 146. His first loss of his career came in his next fight against Stefan “The Skyscraper” Struve. He lost by TKO in the second round.
He won three fights in a row against Roy Nelson, Gabriel Gonzaga and Fabio Maldonado.
The former champion Junior dos Santos was on his way back to the title shot and faced off against Miocic at UFC on FOX: dos Santos vs. Miocic. “Cigano” defeated Miocic and sent him back to the drawing board.
Stipe Miocic as Heavyweight Champion in the UFC
Stipe Miocic won two straight fights against top contenders Mark Hunt and Andrei Arlovski, both by TKO to get his shot at the Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum in Brazil. The two met in Curitiba, Brazil at UFC 198: Werdum vs. Miocic 2.
When Werdum was rushing in at Miocic, he got hit by a short straight right from Miocic. Werdum was sent crashing to the canvas and Miocic followed up with punches. He was now the undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World.
Stipe Miocic vs. Alistair Overeem
Stipe Miocic made his first title defense against Dutchman Alistair Overeem. Even though Overeem found success early and knocked down the champion, Miocic eventually came back and knocked out Overeem in the first round.
fter the fight Overeem claimed that Miocic had tapped, looking back at the replay three time, no tap was seen.
Stipe Miocic vs Junior dos Santos II
Tying the record for most title defenses in UFC Heavyweight history, he once again faced familiar foe Junior dos Santos. “Cigano” started the fight strong and hit Miocic with some vicious leg kicks.
Eventually Miocic found dos Santos’ chin and he was TKO’d in the first round.
Stipe Miocic’s next UFC fight
Stipe Miocic is currently in a contract dispute where he is asking for more money. No word as of yet on Stipe Miocic’s next fighth.
