Paul Felder Frustrated After Losing Latest Opponent as UFC Searches for a Replacement

Paul Felder is once again without an opponent after the UFC pulled James Vick to fight Justin Gaethje at UFC Fight Night in Nebraska

Paul Felder needs a new opponent yet again.

After missing out on a fight at UFC 223 when Al Iaquinta was pulled to face Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event back in April, Felder has once again had the rug pulled out from under him for the sake of saving another card.

Felder was scheduled to meet James Vick at UFC Fight Night in Boise, Idaho on July 14 but that fight is no longer happening.

Vick was pulled less than 24 hours ago to face Justin Gaethje in the new main event for UFC Fight Night in Lincoln, Nebraska on Aug. 25. Vick replaced Iaquinta, who was originally in the main event before dropping out a day ago for undisclosed reasons.

That leaves Felder without a fight with the card just over two weeks away.

“Slapped in the face for the second time this year,” Felder wrote on Twitter after Vick was pulled from their fight. “Nothing kills your motivation like training and cutting weight for nothing.”

The fight between Felder and Vick was originally scheduled as the co-main event for the card in Idaho on July 14.

Sources say that the UFC is ‘scrambling’ to find a new opponent to keep Felder on the card but as of now, nothing has been booked.

A quick look at the top 15 rankings in the UFC lightweight division doesn’t offer much hope that Felder will find an equal opponent to what he just lost in Vick.

Felder has been calling for a fight against a ranked opponent for months after three consecutive knockout victories in a row.

Now the question remains will the UFC find a suitable replacement to keep Felder on the card as he awaits word on a new opponent.
