Cruz has been out of action since 2016 when he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Cody Garbrandt that cost him the bantamweight title.
The former champion was then expected to return to action late last year in a fight against Jimmie Rivera but he suffered a broken arm that kept him out of action. Now Cruz is expected to make his next UFC appearance in early 2019 as he looks to get back into the title picture with a win.
As for Lineker, the former flyweight turned bantamweight has gone 6-1 since returning to 135 pounds in 2015 including a current two-fight win streak.
The Brazilian slugger earned a knockout in his last fight against Brian Kelleher and now he’ll look to add a former champion to his resume when he faces Cruz in January.
Cruz vs. Lineker is the latest addition to the growing UFC 233 fight card that will also feature the champion versus champion showdown between flyweight king Henry Cejudo and current bantamweight title holder T.J. Dillashaw.
