Demian Maia vs. Anthony Rocco Martin expected at UFC Fight Night in Minneapolis
Former welterweight title contender Demian Maia is expected to return to action against Anthony Rocco Martin at the upcoming UFC Fight Night card from Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 29.
Sources close to the fight confirmed the news on Friday following an initial report from Combate in Brazil.
Maia will look for his second win in a row after breaking a three fight losing streak in his last fight when he earned a rapid-fire submission against Lyman Good. Prior to that win, Maia had fallen in three straight, albeit to three of the best welterweights in the sport including current champion Kamaru Usman and previous title holder Tyron Woodley.
Now he faces Martin, who will come into the fight off four straight wins since returning to the welterweight division.
Martin has looked better than ever lately including his most recent win over Sergio Moraes to earn that fourth win in a row. If Martin hopes to climb up the welterweight rankings this is certainly his best opportunity as Maia has been a proven contender in the division since first moving to 170 pounds.
Maia vs. Martin is the latest addition to a growing card that will air on ESPN in the United States. The headliner for the card is a welterweight rematch between former champions as Tyron Woodley faces Robbie Lawler in the main event.
