WATCH: Daniel Cormier, Derrick Lewis Share Intense Face Off Ahead of UFC 230
On Thursday in New York, the athletes from UFC 230 faced off for the first time during fight week including a tense stare down between heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and No. 2 ranked contender Derrick Lewis.
Cormier is a huge favorite going into the fight but he hasn’t looked past Lewis’ incredible knockout power, which earned him the title shot with a third round finish against Alexander Volkov in his last performance.
Cormier will be attempting to defend his heavyweight title for the first time while Lewis is obviously looking for the upset to become UFC champion.
In the co-main event, former middleweight champion Chris Weidman will take on submission specialist Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in a pivotal fight at 185 pounds.
Both fighters said this week that they believe a win on Saturday night should secure a title shot but it always comes down to performance so it will be interesting to see how Weidman and “Jacare” approach this highly anticipated matchup.
