Cris Cyborg Faces Amanda Nunes in Champion vs. Champion Fight at UFC 232
A long awaited champion vs. champion showdown is now set as Cris Cyborg will take on Amanda Nunes on Dec. 29 at UFC 232 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Sources close to the matchup confirmed that bout agreements have been issued for the fight that will see Cyborg put her UFC women’s featherweight title up for grabs against Nunes, who is the reigning women’s bantamweight champion. ESPN first reported the fight on Wednesday.
Cyborg has been champing at the bit for this fight while calling out Nunes for not accepting the matchup at an earlier date when the UFC originally floated the idea for the bout to take place in September.
Nunes fired back by saying she absolutely wanted the fight but wouldn’t be ready until December.
Now both sides have agreed to the date and location with Cyborg facing Nunes in December.
This will be the third champion vs. champion fight in the UFC over just the past two years. Cyborg vs. Nunes joins Daniel Cormier vs. Stipe Miocic and Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez as the other champion versus champion fights since 2016.
The fight will serve as arguably Cyborg’s toughest test in recent memory as she’s been the most dominant force in all of women’s mixed martial arts for more than a decade.
Meanwhile, Nunes will return to featherweight, where she started her fighting career, as she looks to add another legend to her resume while already holding wins over iconic names such as Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate.
