Conor McGregor Not Expected to Face Any Further Punishment from the UFC over Bus Assault

Conor McGregor had his day in court and that appears to be the only punishment he'll face as fallout from the bus attack he orchestrated ahead of UFC 223 in Brooklyn

Conor McGregor is free to return to action in the UFC and isn’t expected to face any further punishment for his part in an attack on a bus back in April that ended with two fighters and one UFC employee suffering injuries.

The assault happened just days away from UFC 223 when McGregor and a slew of his friends and teammates stormed through the Barclays Center in an attempt to get at Khabib Nurmagoemdov, who was involved in a separate incident earlier in the week with Artem Lobov.

The end result was McGregor and his crew attacking a bus filled with fighters with the former two-division champion throwing a moving dolly through a window that injured both Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg, knocking them out of their fights at UFC 223.

McGregor was arrested and on Thursday he pled guilty to one count of disorderly conduct while also receiving court ordered anger management classes as well as five days of community service for orchestrating the attack.

McGregor may still face civil action from the people injured in that bus attack but by all accounts he won’t receive any further punishment from the UFC for his part in the melee.

“Conor has faced a lot of repercussions,” UFC president Dana White said about McGregor’s punishment. “Conor’s lost a lot of money and a lot of time. Conor and I are good. We’re good.”

With McGregor seemingly free from any potential sanctions from the UFC as a result of his actions, the path is clear for him to return to the Octagon for the first time since 2016.

All signs are pointing towards McGregor facing lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov later this year and while White says there’s no set date for the fight, he would love to see the matchup take place at UFC 229 on Oct. 6 in Las Vegas.

“That would be awesome,” White said about Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor at UFC 229.

While nothing is finalized yet, Whited added that talks with McGregor and his team have been ongoing as he prepared for his plea agreement to be finalized this past week.

McGregor’s manager Audie Attar categorized his talks with the UFC as being in the ‘red zone’ regarding the Irishman’s return to action and White seemed to agree with that assessment.

“There’s been a lot of talk leading up to this, especially once we knew how this was going to play out for him in New York,” White said. “I agree with what he said. We’re all in a good place.”
