Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman 2 In Negotiations for UFC 230 in New York
A middleweight rematch is currently being discussed for UFC 230 as former champions Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman are in negotiations to meet on the Nov. 3 card from New York City.
Sources close to the matchup confirmed the bout has been offered with verbal agreements in place but no contracts have been signed at this time. Until bout agreements have been issued and returned, the fight is not official. ESPN first reported the potential matchup.
For Rockhold this will be a return to middleweight after he had teased a move to light heavyweight following a loss in his most recent fight to Yoel Romero.
It appears Rockhold has opted to stay at 185 pounds where he was champion previously after defeating Weidman back in 2015.
The rematch will give Weidman a shot at redemption while also hoping that a win over Rockhold will secure a chance to eventually compete for the middleweight championship again.
Weidman has been dealing with injuries that have kept him out of action for over a year but now the New York native will fight at home while taking on a familiar foe.
UFC 230 will take place inside Madison Square Garden in New York on Nov. 3 with a main event for the card still to be determined.
