While the promotion didn’t add this to their initial announcement, Zingano vs. Anderson is expected to serve as the backup to the co-main event, which features women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg putting her title on the line against women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.
Cyborg had previously requested another featherweight fight added to the card as backup just in case Nunes was unable to compete. The UFC has started booking these kinds of matchups on the same card as a high profile title fight just in case disaster strikes and there would be an alternate ready to go on short notice.
For Zingano, this will be her first trip to 145 pounds after previously trying to land a fight with Cyborg after she arrived in the UFC. Most recently, Zingano dispatched Marion Reneau by unanimous decision back in July.
As for Anderson, the former Invicta FC featherweight champion had a rough start to her UFC career with a three round decision loss to Holly Holm earlier this year. Now she will look to get back on track while facing Zingano in December.
Zingano vs. Anderson joins a packed UFC 232 fight card including the champion versus champion match with Cyborg against Nunes as well as the main event featuring the return of Jon Jones as he faces Alexander Gustafsson with the light heavyweight title on the line.
