Rapper 50 Cent Will Pay $1 Million to Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix Champion
Bellator MMA is going straight to the bank with rapper 50 Cent.
On Thursday, the Viacom owned mixed martial arts promotion announced a partnership with Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson on a new apparel line as well as a sponsorship with his own brand of champagne.
Perhaps the biggest part of this new partnership will be 50 Cent taking a portion of the proceeds he’s making from this deal and paying $1 million to the winner of the upcoming Bellator welterweight Grand Prix.
“We are thrilled to partner with such a legendary icon who has been a friend to the Bellator family for quite some time. The “Get The Strap” apparel line is just the beginning of many joint ventures we will explore together,” Bellator president Scott Coker said in a press release.
50 Cent has been a long time fan of mixed martial arts and rumors have swirled for months about a potential business relationship with Bellator MMA.
Now the Grammy Award winning rapper will be taking a step into a new partnership with the promotion that will include an exclusive clothing line as well as his Le Chemin du Roi champagne brand will be featured at future Bellator events.
“I am excited to partner with the Bellator Viacom franchise. Mixed martial arts yields some of the most action-packed events in the world. I’m excited for people to see how I plan to shake up MMA with the integration of my ‘Get The Strap’ trademark as well as my luxury champagne Le Chemin du Roi.” Jackson said in a statement.
Obviously the biggest benefit to the fighters from this new venture will be the welterweights competing in the upcoming grand prix that will now see the winner earn a $1 million prize at the end of the tournament.
The upcoming Bellator welterweight grand prix will see eight fighters from the division square off with the eventual winner being crowned champion and now taking home a big cash prize as a reward.
The welterweight Grand Prix will kick off on Saturday night at Bellator 206 when former champions Douglas Lima and Andrey Koreshkov face off for the third time with the winner punching a ticket to the next round of the tournament.
