Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson 2 Set to Headline UFC 232 in December
A long awaited rematch is finally happening at UFC 232 as Jon Jones makes his return to action against Alexander Gustafsson with the winner being crowned the undisputed light heavyweight champion.
The moment Jones and Gustafsson step into the cage the title will be on the line with current champion Daniel Cormier being stripped of the belt.
Sources close to the situation confirmed the news on Wednesday following an initial report from ESPN.
The rematch between Jones and Gustafsson is five years in the making after their first fight in 2013 was regarded as one of the greatest five round battles in UFC history.
Jones ultimately edged out a decision victory but there has been a desire for a rematch ever since. Jones will be eligible to compete again after his current 15 month suspension from USADA comes to an end on Oct. 28, clearing the way for his fight against Gustafsson in December.
Gustafsson has been out of action even longer than Jones while dealing with various injuries that have kept him sidelined.
The way it all played out benefitted the Swedish light heavyweight as he’s been asking for the rematch against Jones ever since the first fight ended. Now Gustafsson will get his chance with the UFC light heavyweight title on the line.
Jones vs. Gustafsson joins an already monster card that features a champion versus champion super fight pitting Cris Cyborg against Amanda Nunes in the co-main event at UFC 232.
